1883 Hawaiian Quarter.

We offer a special collection of Victorian Era Love Tokens.
Love tokens are coins and/or medals, which one or sometimes both sides of the coin have been engraved with initials, names, dates, phrases and/ or scenes.

These "tokens of love" were often presented as gifts by suitors to young women.
Typically, the giver and/or the receiver's initials or names(s) were engraved
on the coin.

The love token, from most historical accounts originated in Great Britain in the early 1800's, and eventually made it's
way to the United States and Canada in the mid-to late 1800's.

The dime was the most popular denomination of coin used
(1850's - early 1900's), but these wonderful tokens of affection have been engraved on almost every denomination of U.S. coin from the half cent through the twenty dollar gold piece.

Love token engravings are found on other coins from around the world, including Hawaiian coins (1800's) that are unique
to Hawaii's historical monarchy period.
